Lieurey second for Poetic Charm

Racenews

Poetic Charm finished runner-up in the G3 Prix de Lieurey at Deauville, France, on Wednesday, 15 August.

The thee-year-old Dubawi filly, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, was settled in fourth place in the early stages of the mile contest before racing in fifth of the eight runners.

She was asked for her effort as the field entered the straight and ran on late to take second in the closing stages, three and a half lengths behind the winner Wind Chimes who scored in a time of 1m 42.17s on good to soft ground.

Charlie Appleby reported: “I was delighted with Poetic Charm today as she has run a very creditable race.

“The winner is a good filly and hopefully Poetic Charm is progressing and there is no reason why she should not be winning at this level going forwards.

“You could potentially question whether a step up in trip might suit her as she just took a bit of time warming up into the race today, although they went quite slow early on and the race didn’t really get going until they entered the straight.”
