Progressive juvenile My Highness took the step up to G2 level in her stride with a cosy success in the Prix du Calvados at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 24 August.

The daughter of Ghaiyyath, looking to follow up a pair of conditions race wins, tacked over to settle in last of a group of four that came up the centre of the course, with the other three runners sticking to the stands’ rail.

Angled out over two furlongs out, My Highness quickened powerfully to head Ascot G3 winner Fitzella inside the final furlong before forging clear. Cristian Demuro eased the Andre Fabre-trained filly close home, crossing the line a length and a quarter to the good.

Her winning time of 1m 20.73s was a course record for Deauville’s seven-furlong distance, beating the previous best set by Proviso in the same race in 2007.

Louise Benard of Godolphin said: “My Highness is an adaptable filly, who has improved with every race. This was a test to confirm what we think about her and she showed her class. The Prix Marcel Boussac is an obvious option, although Andre will decide where to go next.”
