Profitable set for Saint-Georges return

Profitable makes his seasonal return and Godolphin debut in the G3 Prix de Saint-Georges (15.35hrs local time) over five furlongs at Deauville, France, on Saturday, May 13.

The five-year-old, representing Clive Cox, was due to run in the G3 Palace House Stakes over the same distance at Newmarket on May 6 - a race he won in 2016 - but missed the contest with a minor stone bruise.

Profitable was one of Europe's top sprinters last season, with victories over five furlongs in the G2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park and the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot to add to his Newmarket success, both by a neck.

He also finished fourth over six furlongs in the G1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket last year and makes his first appearance since coming home seventh in the five furlong G1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp at Chantilly, France, in October.

James Doyle takes the ride on the son of Invincible Spirit, who opposes, from stall eight, nine rivals headed by G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Signs Of Blessing and Son Cesio, a G2 scorer over the course and distance.

Clive Cox commented: “We have been pleased with Profitable. I think that he should have a very strong chance, especially with Signs Of Blessing running under a penalty.

“I am pleased with the forecast ground conditions and looking forward to seeing him back in action.”
