Intercontinental challenge for Always Thinking

Racenews

Always Thinking goes after a first Graded success in the G2 Intercontinental Stakes over seven furlongs on turf at Belmont Park, USA, on Thursday, 7 June.

The five-year-old Street Sense mare, trained by Tom Albertrani, steps up in distance after coming home fifth over a furlong shorter in the License Fee Stakes at the New York course on 29 April.

Always Thinking has gained three wins on dirt and turf, headed by an impressive victory on grass in the Sensible Lady Turf Dash Stakes over six furlongs at Laurel Park in September.

Ridden by Manuel Franco for the first time and drawn in stall three, she faces nine fillies and mares in the Intercontinental Stakes including the first and second from the License Fee Stakes – Lady Alexandra and Stormy Victoria – plus Faypien, a G1 runner-up on dirt, making her turf debut.

Tom Albertrani reported: “Always Thinking has been running well in her recent appearances and we are hoping for another good effort.

“She ran to our expectations in the License Fee Stakes, although the ground was on the soft side of good that day, which wouldn’t have been ideal for her.

“She is coming up against a similar field and I hope that she can improve her placing on quicker ground.”
