Impressive G2 Glens Falls Stakes victory for Lady Montdore

Racenews

Lady Montdore made all for an impressive victory in the 11-furlong G2 Glens Falls Stakes on turf at Saratoga on Saturday, 1 September and remains unbeaten in the United States.

The Tom Albertrani-trained four-year-old filly enjoyed a four and a half-length victory in an allowance race over the same course and distance on 6 August, her first race for 11 months, after previously being based in France.

The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, ridden by Manuel Franco, broke well from the outside stall and soon took up the running in the eight-strong field.

She dictated the pace before being asked to increase her lead turning for home and did so in the straight to beat Santa Monica by an eased-down two and a quarter lengths in 2m 20.78s on going described as good.

Tom Albertrani commented: “Lady Montdore was very impressive on her first start here and we thought we would try her in G2 Glens Falls Stakes.

“She fitted in well to the race and was very impressive again today. There was not a lot of pace so she was taken the front.

“The Fire Bowl Stakes (G1, 10f, Belmont Park, 7 October) in a month or so is a target. She is a light-framed filly and I need to see how she comes out of this race. Then potentially there is the Breeders’ Cup (G1, 11f, Filly & Mare Turf, Churchill Downs, 3 November) to consider.

“I am very fortunate that this filly has come to my barn.”

Jimmy Bell, President of Godolphin USA, added: “Lady Montdore is a very versatile filly – she came through to lead first time and today she was gate to wire.

“Turning for home, she was well in hand and she had more in the tank in the stretch. Lady Montdore is a true distance-loving filly and we are very, very excited about this home-bred.”
