G3 second for Al Dabaran at Chantilly

Racenews

Al Dabaran finished half a length behind Hopeful for a second successive time as the duo fought out the finish to the G3 Prix de Conde over nine furlongs at Chantilly, France, on Monday, 30 September.

The two-year-old Dubawi colt, who chased home the same horse when they filled the places behind Ecrivain in the G3 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp on Sunday, 8 September, was immediately sent to the front of the six runners by William Buick.

Al Dabaran was asked for effort with two furlongs to race and rallied strongly after being narrowly headed by Hopeful soon after. He continued to press for the lead but could find no extra near the line, with Hopeful holding on to score in 1m 56.94s on soft ground.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Al Dabaran produced another solid performance and we will put him away for the winter now. He is a colt who will progress with time and should be a nice middle-distance horse for next year.”
