Arabian Crown returned to form with a hard-fought success in the Listed August Stakes at Windsor, UK, on Saturday, 23 August, notching his first win since last season’s G3 Classic Trial.

Settled in third of the four runners by Billy Loughnane, the Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old stayed on to collar long-time leader Caviar Heights over a furlong from home. Caviar Heights rallied, with Arabian Crown finding more to prevail by a neck as the front two pulled more than four lengths clear.

Billy Loughnane said: “Arabian Crown was gutsy when he needed to be, and I think having something to follow suited him. He travelled round with ease and picked up well. I think he will get a lot of confidence from that and hopefully get back on an upwards trajectory.”

Stablemate Military Order was narrowly denied at G3 level for a second consecutive start as he found Silawi three-quarters of a length too strong in the Winter Hill Stakes on the same card.

The full-brother to Adayar, who was beaten a neck in the G3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock Park earlier in the month, disputed last of the five runners early on before moving up to a clear fourth after the first three furlongs.

Billy Loughnane produced Military Order wide in the straight and made good headway to go second soon after but could not get on terms with Dubawi five-year-old Silawi, who made every yard of the running.
