Curragh G3 third for Skiffle

Skiffle finished third in the nine-furlong G3 Snow Fairy Fillies’ Stakes at the Curragh, Ireland, on Sunday, August 28.

The three-year-old Dubawi filly, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, raced in fifth of the nine runners.

Skiffle was shuffled back to sixth before the turn for home and asked to improve as they straightened up.

The Godolphin contender kept on to take third a furlong out but could not trouble the winner Somehow who won by seven lengths in 1m 53.01s on ground described as good, good to yielding in places. The second, Epsom Icon, held off Skiffle by a half-length for that position.

Charlie Appleby commented: "The winner has won well.

"William reported that Skiffle is still learning. We will be stepping her up in trip again.

"Her performance in the Oaks last time was down to the fact that she did not act on the softish ground.

"Today’s surface was better for her. There is a possibility that we could put her away now until next year but will see how she is after this race."
