Victor Ludorum back to form with G1 Prix du Moulin third

Racenews

Victor Ludorum bounced back from a disappointing Prix Jacques Le Marois performance with a closing third in the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over a mile at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 5 September.

The Shamardal colt, twice successful at G1 level for Andre Fabre including last season’s Poule d’Essai des Poulains, missed the break under Mickael Barzalona and was held up in last of the six runners.

Victor Ludorum was angled out to deliver his challenge as the field reeled in long-time leader Novemba a furlong and a half out and quickened well to go third approaching the final half-furlong.

He gained on the leaders all the way to the line and narrowly failed to catch Order Of Australia for second, finishing a length and a half in total behind the victorious Baaeed.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Victor Ludorum ran very well and we are delighted with him. It was pleasing to see the way he finished his race today and it was a very satisfactory performance all round.

“We haven’t discussed any specific targets for him and the ground will probably be a factor. We know that he is more effective when he can show his turn of foot on better ground, so we will see how far we can go into the autumn.”
