Tribalist’s dalliance with the sprinting ranks again proved inconclusive as he finished third in the G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 6 July.

Last season’s G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp victor had failed to get competitive on his only previous six-furlong outing in the same race 12 months ago.

Given a more aggressive ride by Mickael Barzalona this time, the Andre Fabre-trained six-year-old was sent on into an early length advantage over National Service and Batwan.

Tribalist travelled powerfully in front but lacked the change of gear that some of his rivals possessed, with Beauvatier quickening by the Godolphin runner just inside the final furlong.

Spycatcher took second in the closing strides as Tribalist kept on at the same pace to go down by two lengths in total.
