Suburban route for Watershed

Racenews

Watershed goes for a second Graded victory this year in the G2 Suburban Handicap over a mile and a quarter on dirt at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, July 8.

The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained five-year-old ran on well to take the nine-furlong G3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland on April 15 before fading to fifth over half a furlong further on his latest outing in the G3 Pimlico Special at Pimlico on May 19.

Mike Smith takes the ride for the first time on the son of Bernardini, who has five rivals headed by Pimlico Special winner and multiple G1 victor Shaman Ghost plus this year’s Dubai World Cup seventh Keen Ice.

Kiaran McLaughlin commented: “Watershed is training very well but this looks a tough race for him.

“We have a top jockey on board in Mike Smith and we are looking forward to seeing how Watershed gets on against some strong opposition.”
