Gallant third for Dickinson in Just A Game Stakes

Dickinson ran a fine race to finish third in the G1 Just A Game Stakes, just missing out on second by a nose at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, June 10.

The five-year-old mare, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and partnered by Paco Lopez, was fractionally slow into stride as the stalls opened but recovered quickly and raced in third of the seven runners on the inside.

Dickinson improved to second entering the straight and, though the winner Antonoe came from last to first, she nearly caught the runner-up Sassy Little Lila by the post. Antonoe triumphed by three quarters of a length in 1m 32.12s for the mile on firm turf.

Both the winner and the second received 8lbs from Dickinson. The Godolphin contender finished three and a half lengths ahead of the fourth Harmonize.

Kiaran McLaughlin commented: “Dickinson ran her race and I am very proud of her.

“She did 22 seconds for the last quarter-mile and finished strongly but 8lbs made the difference.

“If she goes for the Diana (G1, 1m 1f, Saratoga, July 22), and the timing is perfect, she will meet the winner and second on level weights.”
