Strong test for Franz Schubert and Graphite in Prix La Force

Maiden winners Franz Schubert and Graphite move up to G3 level in the nine-furlong Prix La Force (16.30hrs local time) at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, April 9.

The Andre Fabre-trained colts start their three-year-old campaigns in the first major Classic trial of the season, with unbeaten Franz Schubert (Mickael Barzalona) having made an impressive debut over the course and distance in October.

Graphite (Pierre-Charles Boudot), a son of Shamardal, had two appearances at Maisons-Laffitte last season, following up a staying-on fourth over a mile in September with a swooping head verdict in a nine-furlong contest the following month.

A field of 12 for the Prix La Force also features Afandem, who is unbeaten in two outings, and G3 Prix des Chenes runner-up High Alpha

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: "Franz Schubert won his maiden nicely last season and has done well over the winter.

"Graphite has also been training well and this race will hopefully provide clues as to where we go with both horses over the coming months."
