Sparkling G2 Prix Corrida for Morgan Le Faye

Racenews

Morgan Le Faye maintained her unbeaten start to 2019 with an impressive victory in the G2 Prix Corrida – her biggest success to date - over an extended 10 furlongs at Saint-Cloud, France, on Monday, 20 May.

The five-year-old Shamardal mare, trained by Andre Fabre and partnered again by Mickael Barzalona, was a Listed and G3 winner at Longchamp over similar trips on her two previous appearances this year.

Morgan Le Faye broke smartly from the stalls and was soon settled a close fourth of the six runners.

She cruised up to deliver her challenge in the straight and soon went to the front just inside the final furlong before going clear to beat Listen In by two lengths in 2m 19.50s on very soft ground.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “Morgan Le Faye won impressively and the race went as well as we could have hoped.

She travelled really nicely and quickened up strongly. Andre Fabre was delighted with the performance and it is great to see her win a G2 race.

“The obvious next step is a G1 contest and we will see how she comes out of this race before making any plans.

“The options for her include coming back to Saint-Cloud for the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (1m 4f, 30 June) or we could give her a break and bring her back for the fillies’ G1 races later in the year.”
