Quorto goes for another Superlative performance at Newmarket

Racenews

Two-year-old colt Quorto attempts to build on an exciting debut when he steps up in class and trip for the seven-furlong G2 Superlative Stakes on day three of the July Festival at Newmarket on Saturday, 14 July.

The son of Dubawi, trained by Charlie Appleby, quickened impressively for a convincing victory at the same course in a novice contest over six furlongs on 22 June.

His six rivals in the Superlative Stakes include G2 Railway Stakes third Certain Lad, G2 Coventry Stakes seventh Blown By Wind and recent Tipperary winner Cape Of Good Hope.  Quorto is drawn in stall one.

Charlie Appleby commented: “I was very pleased with Quorto’s first start and he came out of the race very well.

“We feel that the step up to seven furlongs is going to be to his liking as he is by Dubawi and stoutly-bred on his dam’s side.

“He is one of a few of our two-year-old colts who was able to win over six furlongs at this stage of the season - a lot of our colts are more likely to be seen over seven furlongs or a mile later on in the year.

“Hopefully, it’s the sign that he is a nice horse and we are looking forward to seeing how he copes with the step up to Group level.”
