Prix La Force third for Roman Candle

Racenews

Roman Candle finished well to be third of the seven runners in the nine-furlong G3 Prix La Force at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 7 April.

The Andre Fabre-trained three-year-old Le Havre colt, making his seasonal debut and having just his third start, was held up towards the rear of the field by Mickael Barzalona.

He was second last when switched out to try and challenge approaching the quarter-mile pole.

Roman Candle wandered left and right before coming with a strong run inside the final furlong to take third in the closing stages behind the winner Shaman and runner-up Rockemperor, who were separated by a neck, with a further two lengths back to the Godolphin runner. The winning timer was 1m 50.24s on good turf.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin reported: “Roman Candle has run a good race in his first G3.

“He did well from off the pace and we will probably step him up to 10 furlongs next time out.

“He will come on for the outing and is a fairly straightforward horse.”
