Prix de Lieurey challenge for Flowrider and Poetic Charm

Racenews

Flowrider and Poetic Charm both go to post in the G3 Prix de Lieurey over a mile at Deauville, France, on Wednesday, 15 August.

Three-year-old Dubawi filly Poetic Charm, trained by Charlie Appleby, finished a staying-on fifth last time out in the G3 Oak Tree Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood on 3 August.

She landed a seven-furlong fillies’ handicap at Newmarket on 14 July and was a dual winner in 2017, taking a maiden at Newmarket and a Polytrack conditions race at Kempton Park, both at the same distance.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was pleased with Poetic Charm on her last start at Goodwood, where she had a very difficult draw but still ran a very creditable race.

“She has come out of Goodwood in good form and the conditions of this race at Deauville looks to be a good opportunity for her at Group level. “

Flowrider, a three-year-old daughter of Street Cry trained by Andre Fabre, was last seen when coming home third in the G3 Prix Chloe over nine furlongs at Chantilly on 9 July. She finished a close fourth, beaten two and a half lengths, in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary over 10 furlongs at Longchamp on 27 May and began her career with an impressive victory in a mile maiden at Saint-Cloud on 8 May.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Flowrider is in good form. She is still lightly-raced but has shown some excellent form so far and is progressing all the time.

“At Deauville, she will be dropping back to a mile for the first time since she won her maiden and hopefully she should appreciate this.”

Mickael Barzalona takes the ride on Flowrider with William Buick aboard Poetic Charm. The field of eight for the Prix de Lieurey also includes G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches third Wind Chimes plus Listed winners Environs, Adorable and Frankel Light.
