Notable Speech hopes to secure a third G1 success in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 17 August, in a race that could again prove pivotal in deciding Europe’s top miler.

Champions Kingman, Ribchester, Alpha Centauri, Palace Pier and Charyn have all triumphed over Deauville’s straight course in recent years. This season’s mile division looks particularly open, with Field Of Gold the only horse to win more than one G1 over the distance in Europe in 2025.

Notable Speech returns to a mile following a first career appearance over six furlongs in last month’s G1 July Cup, in which he travelled strongly into contention before keeping on to finish fifth.

The Dubawi colt was fourth on his two previous appearances this year, showing signs of freshness on his seasonal return in Newbury’s G1 Lockinge Stakes before another creditable effort in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Notable Speech created history early in his three-year-old campaign, becoming the first horse since 1938 to win the G1 2,000 Guineas without running as a juvenile. He again showed a brilliant turn of foot to take the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood later in the season to emulate the previous horse to win both races in the same year, Frankel.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Notable Speech goes into this in good order and we feel that stepping back up to a straight mile is going to suit. He looks very competitive in this field and can hopefully get his head back in front at this level.”
