Monarchic highlights sprint potential with G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis third

Racenews

Monarchic acquitted himself well on his G3 debut as he closed strongly from the rear to take third in the Prix de Ris-Orangis at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 9 July.

Stepping up in class on the back of a Saint-Cloud handicap victory, the Andre Fabre-trained four-year-old raced in last of the eight runners for the majority of the six-furlong sprint.

Mickael Barzalona switched Monarchic towards the stands’ rail two furlongs from home and the Kingman colt stayed on well to take third from Bouttemont in the final strides.

Spycatcher quickened away from the field to score by three lengths over Batwan, with another length and a quarter back to Monarchic.
