La Pelosa out to shine in Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes

Racenews

Highly-promising juvenile filly La Pelosa steps up to G2 level for the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes over six furlongs on day two of Newmarket’s July Festival, Friday, 13 July.

The daughter of Dandy Man scored impressively on her debut over the same distance in a novice race on Polytrack at Kempton Park on 23 May.

She then ran on strongly to go down by a neck to Main Edition in the G3 Albany Stakes, also over six furlongs, at Royal Ascot on 22 June.

William Buick, on board for both starts, takes the ride again on La Pelosa, who is drawn two and faces eight other two-year-old fillies headed by Main Edition and G2 Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Gossamer Wings.

Trainer Charlie Appleby commented: “I have been pleased with the way La Pelosa has come out of her run at Royal Ascot.

“She made all at Kempton on her debut, but I think she learned a lot last time out, when she stayed on well in the closing stages, and the race should have brought her on mentally.

“A repeat performance of her last start should see her bang there.”
