Gutsy Niel success for unbeaten Brundtland

Racenews

Brundtland was the game victor of the 12-furlong G2 Prix Niel at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 16 September.

The three-year-old Dubawi colt is unbeaten in three outings now and who knows how good he could be.

He does not show a lot at home, but is certainly top class on the track as he demonstrated by making all and holding off the challenge of Hunting Horn by a short-head in 2m 31.55s on good ground.

Brundtland, partnered by James Doyle, led from the start and was kicked for home after entering the straight.

Trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Brundtland is a hard horse to get a handle on.

“He is not exactly an exciting work horse, but gets the job done on the track.

“James rode a beautiful race on Brundtland who was very game.

“Staying is going to be the colt’s forte and I will discuss with Sheikh Mohammed about the plans from here on. He is another exciting Dubawi colt and hopefully he will go on improving.

“We had him in the St Leger, but we had a team for that race and this colt probably did not have enough experience yet.

“Brundtland is going to be very exciting for next year.”
