Good second for Sentiero Italia in Flower Bowl

Sentiero Italia went close to achieving a first G1 victory at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, October 8 in the Flower Bowl Stakes.

The four-year-old Medaglia D’Oro filly broke well from stall four in the race over 10 furlongs on turf and soon led towards the outside.

Sentiero Italia moved well in front and still held the advantage over her five rivals turning into the straight where her rider Joel Rosario kicked for home.

The Godolphin contender looked as though she might achieve victory but could not resist the challenge of Lady Eli who went to the front well inside the final furlong to triumph by three quarters of a length in 1m 59.85s on firm going. There was another length and quarter back to the third Sea Calisi.

Her trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said: "Sentiero Italia did very well. There did not appear to be much pace in the race and it almost worked going out in front.

"She was second best on the day but ran great. I would like to go next for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1, Santa Anita, November 5, 10f)."
