Gulfstream G3 second for Romantic Pursuit
Four-year-old Romantic Pursuit gained further Group-race Black Type on turf when coming home second on her seasonal debut in the G3 The Very One Stakes over an extended nine furlongs at Gulfstream Park, USA, on Saturday, 29 February.
The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained Medaglia d’Oro filly, third in the G2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park in October, was settled in fourth towards the outside of the 12 runners by Joe Bravo. She quickened around the field and went second turning in before battling well when pressed in the straight to go down by a length and a quarter behind all-the-way winner Elizabeth Way.
Kiaran McLaughlin said: “Romantic Pursuit ran well and was very game to hang on to second. We were happy with her big effort after a layoff and hopefully she can improve from this race. We will look at going a little further with her next time.”
