G3 third for Naval Crown at Longchamp

Naval Crown was collared in the closing stages when coming home a close third in the G3 Prix La Rochette at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 6 September.

Making his first Group-race appearance in the seven-furlong contest, the Charlie Appleby-trained juvenile was soon sent to the front of the six runners by James Doyle.

Naval Crown stayed on after kicking for home in the straight but the Dubawi colt was headed by Go Athletico and Sealiway inside the final half-furlong to go down by just over a length.

Charlie Appleby said: “Naval Crown produced a good effort on his Pattern-race debut, although softer ground might have suited him better.”
