G2 third for Glorious Journey in Challenge Stakes

Racenews

Glorious Journey continued his good autumn with a staying-on third in the G2 Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes over seven furlongs at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, 9 October.

The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi, a Listed winner over the same distance at Newbury on Friday, 18 September, was held up in second-last of the nine runners, one place ahead of his slowly away stable-companion Zakouski.

Glorious Journey was relegated to last approaching the final three furlongs before making good headway under James Doyle, moving up to third over a furlong from home.

The dual G2 winner galloped out well to go down by just under four lengths in total, with Zakouski making late progress to take fourth for William Buick.

Charlie Appleby said: “Glorious Journey has run another solid race and going back to Dubai for the Carnival will be the plan again. He will probably go down the same programme as last year, starting with the G2 Al Fahidi Fort and then potentially another trip to Saudi Arabia.

“Zakouski produced a pleasing run after a lay-off and could return to a mile for the Listed Ben Marshall Stakes back at Newmarket in a couple of weeks.”
