G2 Grand Prix de Deauville victory for Loxley

Racenews

Loxley was the impressive winner of the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville, his biggest victory to date, at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 26 August.

The three-year-old New Approach colt, the easy victor of the 10-furlong Listed Prix Nureyev at Deauville on 11 August, has now won on four of his six starts.

William Buick broke well on Loxley, who was keen in the early stages, and they raced in second as Salouen took the seven-strong field along in the G2 over 12 and a half furlongs.

Loxley settled and was a close third before cruising up to take second again after entering the straight.

He led just before the final furlong and went away to score by two lengths from Master’s Spirit in 2m 44.00s.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Loxley is a horse who is going the right way.

“He is still learning on the job and I think he will fulfil his potential next year.

“His two victories at Deauville have taught him a lot. He appreciated this trip. We will regroup and discuss his future.”
