Emotionless & Promising Run Among Day Four Goodwood Contenders

Emotionless and Promising Run, who challenge for the G3 Thoroughbred Stakes, headline a strong Godolphin supporting cast on day four of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, Friday, July 29.

Emotionless and Promising Run, who challenge for the mile G3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (14.35hrs local time), headline a strong Godolphin supporting cast on day four of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, Friday, July 29.

The two three-year-olds both finished fifth at G1 level over the same distance at Royal Ascot, with Emotionless running a sound race on his seasonal return in the St James's Palace Stakes and Promising Run staying on well from the rear in the Coronation Stakes.

Emotionless (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle) was injured when finishing last in the G1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October. The Shamardal colt scored decisively over seven furlongs in both a Newmarket maiden and the G2 At The Races Champagne Stakes at Doncaster beforehand.

Promising Run (Saeed bin Suroor/James Doyle), a daughter of Hard Spun, also triumphed in G2 company last year when the comfortable winner of the seven-furlong Shadwell Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.

Charlie Appleby reported: "Emotionless has come out of his race at Ascot in good order. I expect him to run very well, provided he handles the track at Goodwood."

Saeed bin Suroor commented: "Promising Run is doing well and I have been pleased with her since Royal Ascot, where she ran a good race. She is ready to go again and I am hopeful of another good effort."

A total of four Godolphin runners contest the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes and they also include 2016 G1 St James's Palace Stakes fourth Cymric (John Gosden/James McDonald) and Buratino (Mark Johnston/Joe Fanning), who captured the G2 Coventry Stakes last year.

Recent G1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes third Always Smile (Saeed bin Suroor/James Doyle) is out to continue her good run of form this year in the seven-furlong G3 L'Ormarins Queens Plate Stakes (16.55hrs local time) following several fine efforts over a mile.

The four-year-old Cape Cross filly, who has yet to finish out of the first three in seven starts, was also third in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and kicked off her 2016 season with a neck verdict in the Listed Hambleton Stakes at York in May.

Mise En Rose (Charlie Appleby/James McDonald) takes part in the same 12-runner race and the three-year-old makes her Pattern debut following a comfortable success in a seven-furlong handicap at Newmarket's July Festival.

Saeed bin Suroor remarked: "Always Smile is a tough filly, who always tries really hard - she is small but has a big heart. She came out of Newmarket really well and I am looking forward to another good run."

Charlie Appleby added: "I was very happy to see Mise En Rose return to the winner's enclosure at Newmarket, where she was suited by the faster ground. She is up in class again but has been pleasing me in her work at home."

Four-year-olds Carry On Deryck (Saeed bin Suroor/James Doyle) and Outlaw Country (Charlie Appleby/James McDonald) line up in one of the big heritage handicaps of the meeting, the £150,000 Betfred Mile (15.10hrs local time).

Carry On Deryck won a competitive turf handicap at Meydan, UAE, at the start of the year, while Outlaw Country makes his first appearance since taking second behind Secret Brief in a valuable sales race at Newmarket in October, 2014.

Saeed bin Suroor commented: "Carry On Deryck was disappointing on his latest appearance in the John Smith's Cup (York, July 9), but he won a nice race out in Dubai earlier this year and has been working well."

Charlie Appleby said: "This is Outlaw Country's first start after a long layoff. Whatever he does on Saturday, he will improve for the run."

Yarmouth scorer Final Reckoning (Charlie Appleby/James McDonald - drawn one) and Ripon winner Top Score (Saeed bin Suroor/James Doyle - drawn 12) go for the 18-runner six-furlong Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Nursery Handicap (16.20hrs local time).

Charlie Appleby commented: "Final Reckoning has progressed with each run. The sounder surface should suit. It looks like a competitive race but I expect he will give a good account of himself."

Saeed bin Suroor said: "Top Score is an improving colt, who heads to Goodwood in good form, and I think that the return to six furlongs will suit him."
