Dickinson moves up for G3 Marshua’s River Stakes

Five-year-old mare Dickinson is out to maintain her faultless record on turf when stepping up to G3 level for the Marshua’s River Stakes (14.30hrs local time) over an extended mile at Gulfstream Park, USA, on Saturday, January 14.

The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained daughter of Medaglia d’Oro has thrived since switching from the dirt to turf last year on her ninth start, readily winning allowance optional claimers at Parx (7.5f) in September and at Belmont Park (1m) the following month.

Dickinson, drawn in stall eight on Saturday, has also been successful twice on dirt, taking a maiden at Keeneland (8.5f) and an allowance optional claimer at Monmouth Park (1m) in 2015.

John Velazquez, who partnered Dickinson on her latest start, rides again and the pair oppose seven rivals headed by last year’s winner Sandiva and G2 scorer Isabella Sings.

Kiaran McLaughlin said: “Dickinson really moved up on the turf and just loved the surface.

“We took her to Parx and she ran huge. We brought her back to New York and it was another impressive performance.

“We have been sitting and waiting for the Marshua’s River Stakes because it is a graded race and we didn’t want to run her every month.

“Dickinson could have a really good year.”
