Speaker’s Corner streets ahead of rivals in G2 Gulfstream Park Mile

Racenews

Speaker’s Corner posted back-to-back Graded Stakes wins at Gulfstream Park, USA, with a scintillating display in the G2 Gulfstream Park Mile on Saturday, 5 March.

The Street Sense colt made virtually all when taking the G3 Fred W Hooper Stakes at the Miami course in January and was again prominent throughout under Junior Alvarado, racing in a close third before taking up the running after the first quarter-mile.

Endorsed tried to challenge leaving the back straight but Speaker’s Corner readily increased his advantage turning in, with the Bill Mott-trained four-year-old galloping out powerfully for a dominant victory.

Bill Mott said: “Speaker’s Corner didn’t get off as well as last time but was able to cruise to the lead down the middle of the back and it looked like he was just waiting for competition.

“Where we go next will be a discussion for the powers that be. I know there are some good horses around but he might be one to consider for the G1 Met Mile.”
