Coliseum impresses on debut at Del Mar

Two-year-old colt Coliseum (Bob Baffert/Joe Talamo) made an eye-catching debut in a maiden race at Del Mar, USA, on Saturday, November 17.

Coliseum led from gate to wire in the seven-furlong contest, pulling away under a hand ride from jockey Joe Talamo to win easily by almost seven lengths.

He stopped the clock in 1:23.13, which was .38 seconds faster than the G3 Bob Hope Stakes over the same distance later on the card.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Coliseum is by Tapit out of Godolphin’s G1 winner, Game Face (Menifee).

Coliseum was named a ‘TDN Rising Star’ for his performance and earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure, which is the fourth-highest debut Beyer for a two-year-old so far this year.
