G2 second for Frosteria in Santa Ynez Stakes

Racenews

Frosteria took a major step forward on her first three-year-old outing with a closing second in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes over seven furlongs on dirt at Santa Anita, USA, on Sunday, 3 January.

The Bob Baffert-trained daughter of Frosted, runner-up in maiden races on all three of her previous starts, broke on terms and was held up at the rear of the six runners by Mike Smith.

Frosteria moved up a place after the first quarter-mile and stayed on well to go third turning in. The Godolphin homebred continued to battle in the straight, getting up for second inside the final half-furlong to finish a length and three-quarters behind Kalypso.

Bob Baffert said: “Frosteria ran a good race. She was a maiden but we wanted to give her a chance. She will probably run back here in a maiden race but I think that she is going to be a good filly.”
