Close third for Mer Et Nuages in G2 Prix du Muguet

Racenews

Improving four-year-old Mer Et Nuages ran an excellent race on his Pattern debut when finishing a length third in the G2 Prix du Muguet over a mile at Saint-Cloud, France, on Wednesday, 1 May.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt, winner of the Listed Prix de Pontarme over the same distance at Longchamp last year, was soon settled behind the leaders in fourth of the seven runners by Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Mer Et Nuages stayed on well to take second over a furlong from home but was passed in the closing stages by Plumatic, who swooped late to beat Olmedo by a neck in 1m 37.97s on good to soft ground, with a further three-quarters of a length back to the Godolphin runner.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “Mer Et Nuages ran a good race and was far from disgraced against the strongest opposition he has faced so far.

“He is still finding his way after a long lay-off last season and we feel that he is still open to further improvement.

“We have no immediate targets and will see how he comes out of this before deciding any plans.”
