Class shows as Mysterious Night storms home at Meydan

Racenews

G1 winner Mysterious Night capitalised on the drop down to handicap company with an emphatic success over seven furlongs at Meydan, UAE, on Friday, 19 January.

The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old, who captured the Summer Stakes in Canada as a juvenile, tracked the leaders before moving ominously into contention at the top of the straight.

Asked to win his race soon after, Mysterious Night powered clear of the field a furlong and a half from home and was eased close home by William Buick to score by four lengths.

Charlie Appleby said: “We are delighted with the manner of Mysterious Night’s victory and this should give him a big confidence boost. We might consider backing him up quickly in next week’s Al Fahidi Fort, or alternatively we have the Ras Al Khor on Super Saturday.”

William Buick said: “The draw [stall 8] was a little kinder to Mysterious Night this time. He got a better run through and travelled supremely well.

“When you go through some of his form, especially as a two-year-old, it is very good. We have been waiting for this for a while and it is nice to see him do that tonight. He showed his class.

“We have always held him in high regard, as his homework has always been very good. It is just nice that he has transferred it to the track again.”
