Bay Of Poets goes for Racing Post Trophy spoils

Charlie Appleby and William Buick team up with a couple of two-year-old colts at Doncaster, UK, on Saturday, October 22, including G1 Racing Post Trophy (15.50hrs) contender Bay Of Poets.

The son of Lope de Vega makes a third appearance over a mile and looks to bounce back following a disappointing run in the G2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket on September 24, when he travelled strongly into the race before fading markedly to finish last of eight behind Best Of Days.

He previously recorded a facile success on Polytrack in a Kempton Park maiden on September 2.

William Buick again takes the ride on Bay Of Poets, who is drawn four and tackles nine rivals headed by G2 Beresford Stakes runner-up Yucatan and G2 Champagne Stakes scorer Rivet.

Charlie Appleby commented: "Bay Of Poets won very well at Kempton and we were a little disappointed with his run in the Royal Lodge Stakes, when the ground was quick.

"He travelled well but didn’t see out the race as we would have expected - it might have been a case that he got there too soon and thought that he had done enough.

"We will ride him a bit cold on Saturday and see whether he is good enough to travel strongly at the right end of the race.

"We know he has a lot to find but we have been very pleased with his homework and are looking forward to seeing how he gets on."

The trainer and jockey are also represented by Timeless Flight, a progressive son of Helmet, who seeks a third straight victory in the six-furlong Listed Scott Dobson 30th Birthday Memorial Doncaster Stakes (14.05hrs).
