Prix de l’Abbaye third achieved by Profitable

Racenews

Profitable ran well to come home third in the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp over five furlongs on soft ground at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, October 1.

The five-year-old Invincible Spirit horse, so consistent in 2017 and drawn 12 of the 13 runners, was prominent from the start under James Doyle.

He led the far side group, but those racing closer to the stands’ side had the advantage and he was third at half-way.

Profitable, partnered by James Doyle progressed to second, then slipped back to third but kept on strongly. The winner Battaash was impressive, scoring by four lengths in 57.59s from Marsha, with a neck back to Profitable.

Trainer Clive Cox reported: “Profitable is really consistent in Group races over five furlongs.

“He was drawn a bit wide today and had to do a lot of work on his own, but ran superbly.”
