Profitable to stand at Kildangan Stud in 2018

G1 King's Stand Stakes winner Profitable has been retired and will stand at Kildangan Stud at €12,000 October 1st, Special Live Foal. A limited number of lifetime breeding rights are also available.

Godolphin’s brilliant five-furlong specialist is the highest-rated sprinting son of Invincible Spirit.

Profitable was trained by Clive Cox and dominated the sprint rankings through the spring of 2016, with victories in the G3 Palace House Stakes and the G2 Temple Stakes over Mecca's Angel before defeating an international field in the G1 King’s Stand at Royal Ascot.

Rated 125 by Timeform, he continued in fine form in a golden era of sprinters, chasing home Lady Aurelia in the King's Stand this year as well as Battaash in the King George Stakes at Goodwood before running an excellent race to place in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly on his last start.

Profitable was also smart at two when Timeform-rated 100, getting off the mark at Sandown in July, before winning the Westow Stakes at York on his first start at Listed level at three. An elite sprinter, like his sire and grandsire Green Desert, he is out of an Indian Ridge mare from a notably tough family, uniting two of the most influential speed sire lines of recent decades.

Clive Cox commented: “Profitable has a wonderful temperament and has been an absolute delight to train. He has been a top-class five-furlong horse throughout, performing at the highest level and saved his best performances for Royal Ascot. I will certainly be looking out for his progeny at the sales.”

Joe Osborne, Godolphin's chief executive said: “Profitable is an especially well-made horse, powerful and strikingly handsome. We are big fans of his sire line, and Cape Cross, who was bred on a similar cross, was a great success here. We are very much looking forward to showing him off to breeders.”
