Turf return for Winning Story in Ormonde

All-Weather Championships scorer Winning Story returns to turf for his first appearance at G3 level in the Ormonde Stakes (15.35hrs local time) over an extended 13 furlongs at Chester, UK, on Friday, May 12.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained four-year-old has predominately raced on an artificial surface and holds the course record for two miles on Polytrack at Lingfield Park following his decisive victory in the valuable All-Weather Marathon Championships Final on April 14.

He gained a comfortable debut success on turf in a 10-furlong Newmarket turf maiden in April, 2016, and showed signs of inexperience on his only other turf start, when coming home last of five in the Listed Derby Trial over just short of 12 furlongs at Lingfield Park the following month.

Joe Fanning partners the son of New Approach for the first time and they take on 11 rivals headed by last season’s G1 Derby runner-up US Army Ranger, French G1 second Red Verdon and G3 winner Midterm.

Saeed bin Suroor commented: “Winning Story won very well on his latest start and is in good form.

“His last piece of work went well and I am looking for a good run, although this is a tougher race for him.”
