Chester Vase test for Ispolini

Racenews

Ispolini, just touched off on his seasonal debut last month, tries again for G3 success in the Chester Vase at Chester, UK, on Wednesday, 9 May.

He is stepping up in trip to an extended mile and a half after being headed in the final strides when beaten a short-head in the G3 Sandown Classic Trial over a mile and a quarter on 27 April.

The three-year-old Dubawi colt, trained by Charlie Appleby, had a couple of starts in November last year, winning a 10-furlong Kempton Park Polytrack maiden decisively on the second occasion.

Ispolini is one of 10 declared runners for the Chester Vase and, with William Buick up again, has to beat recent French G3 third Flag Of Honour and Dee Ex Bee, who stayed on in third in the 10-furlong Listed Blue Riband Trial at Epsom Downs last month.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was very pleased with Ispolini’s seasonal debut at Sandown and he looks to have come on for that race.

“The step up in trip to a mile and a half will suit him and he should be competitive in the Chester Vase.”
