Trawlerman edges Siskany for third in G2 Dubai Gold Cup

Racenews

Trawlerman produced another commendable staying effort as he narrowly denied Siskany for third in the G2 Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan, UAE, on Saturday, 30 March.

Successful in the G2 British Champions Long Distance Cup in October, Trawlerman charted a wide course under Kieran Shoemark before moving across to track Libyan Glass in second, with Siskany racing with his usual exuberance in sixth.

Trawlerman joined Libyan Glass in front half a mile from home before kicking into the lead at the top of the straight as William Buick switched Siskany wide to deliver his challenge.

Al Nayyir headed Trawlerman approaching the final furlong, with Giavellotto, Siskany and Tower Of London laying down strong efforts as all five looked to hold chances.

Tower Of London forged ahead of Al Nayyir inside the final half-furlong to score by two lengths. Trawlerman stuck to his task down the inside rail, finishing a short-head in front of Siskany, with the same margin back to Giavellotto in fifth.

Kieran Shoemark said: “Trawlerman ran a good race. He settled OK, but I think the ground was ultimately a bit too quick for him. I think he’s better with a little bit of dig, but it was a cracking performance. He stays for fun and I wanted to be prominent.”

William Buick said: “Siskany had a good trip. He’s getting older now but ran a good race.”
