Excellent spell continues for Trawlerman with G2 Long Distance Cup third

Racenews

Trawlerman continued a fine second half to his season as he came home third in the G2 British Champions Long Distance Cup on Champions Day at Ascot, Saturday, 15 October.

The Golden Horn four-year-old, returning to Group company for John & Thady Gosden following handicap victories at Glorious Goodwood and in York’s Ebor, settled in a clear second after the first quarter-mile as Quickthorn led the eight runners.

Trawlerman closed turning in and briefly took up the running at the top of the straight before Trueshan and Coltrane headed the Godolphin runner passing the two-furlong pole.

Trueshan and Coltrane soon went clear to fight out a thrilling finish, with Trawlerman keeping on under Frankie Dettori to go down by just over three lengths.

John Gosden said: “Trawlerman has run a great race and had a lovely run round. For an Ebor winner to then come and mix it with the Group horses is great. The ground was very testing – the jockeys say it’s extremely soft and very soft in the straight.”
