Statement win from Words Of Truth in G2 Mill Reef Stakes

Words Of Truth continued his ascent up the juvenile sprinting ranks with a professional display in the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, 20 September.
The son of Lope de Vega, stepping up in class for Charlie Appleby on the back of minor wins at Ascot and Newmarket, broke smartly and soon tracked Into The Sky towards the stands’ side of the eight runners.
Having travelled smoothly into the race entering the final quarter-mile, William Buick was forced to switch on the Godolphin homebred when Into The Sky drifted left soon after.
Into The Sky kicked on into a three-length advantage a furlong out but Words Of Truth stayed on strongly down the stands’ rail, collaring the leader in the final strides before going away for a length verdict.
The front two pulled more than four lengths clear of third home Flying Comet in the six-furlong contest, which was run in driving rain on good to soft ground.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was a pleasing effort from Words Of Truth, who is a progressive horse. Will has said that a step up to seven furlongs will suit in time, and he looks a useful type for that distance as a three-year-old.”
William Buick added: “Words Of Truth has gone from strength to strength, and it was a tough performance today in that ground. His homework has been quite good and he has just kept getting better and better with racing. He’s a real professional and I was very happy with what he achieved there.
“Into The Sky won very well here on debut and I think he is an exciting horse as well, so it looks an up-to-scratch renewal. Words Of Truth brought his previous experience into today and you would imagine he should get seven furlongs.”
