El Cordobes third in G3 Aston Park Stakes

Improving four-year-old El Cordobes acquitted himself well on his first G3 appearance as he finished third in the Aston Park Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, 17 May.

An easy winner of a Newmarket handicap on his previous start, the Charlie Appleby-trained son of Frankel led from the outset and established an early length lead over Eydon.

El Cordobes saw his advantage reduced to half a length as the field closed seven furlongs from home and rallied when Eydon moved up to dispute the running with just under two furlongs to race.

Eydon went on approaching the furlong marker, with Tabletalk taking second inside the final half-furlong. El Cordobes could find no extra close home, going down by three lengths in total.
