Spring campaign halted for Alizee

Godolphin’s dual G1-winning mare Alizee has bled and will miss the spring carnival.

Trainer James Cummings reported the incident to stewards, leading to a mandatory three-month ban from racing.

The winner of the G1 Flight Stakes and the G1 Queen of the Turf Stakes last season had been set to resume in Saturday’s G1 Winx Stakes.

Cummings said blood had been noticed in the mare's nostrils after she galloped at Osborne Park on Tuesday morning.

“It’s a great shame, she’s such a talented mare who we had high hopes for this spring,” Cummings said.

“Unfortunately there is nothing we can do in a situation like this and she will now have a good rest and hopefully she’ll get her chance in the autumn.”

Under Australian racing rules a horse is banned for three months if it bleeds from both nostrils.
