Consistent filly Pinito may have earned herself a crack at feature winter carnival three-year-old staying races after producing a remarkable performance on Saturday, 10 May to win the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet.

Last of 13 runners at the halfway point in the 1,800m event, Pinito and jockey Jason Collett circled the field on the rain-swept track to join the leaders on the point of the home turn before surging clear to beat Microphone filly Amplify by 3.3 lengths, with the same margin to Sun Worshipper in third place.

Although only a maiden winner before Saturday, Pinito had never been out of a place in nine starts and seems to have blossomed since travelling to Queensland.

Runner-up in Listed company from a long way back at Eagle Farm on 26 April, the flashy chestnut again showed her finishing strength and could now target the G2 The Roses 2,000m at Doomben on 24 May and the G1 Queensland Oaks 2,200m at Eagle Farm two weeks later.

Godolphin Australia head trainer James Cummings, who wasn’t at the Gold Coast to witness her victory, should decide the filly’s program this week.

Stable representative Lester Proctor said The Roses and the Oaks looked prime targets for Pinito.

“Most likely, at this stage she will be there,” Proctor said.
“She always tries and today it all worked out for her.

“It was a good win, she’s a lovely filly and good to deal with.”

Collett was also impressed with Pinito, who is by Trapeze Artist out of Waltzing Wodka and a wise $260,000 purchase at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

“I couldn’t see a thing,” a mud-splattered Collett admitted after the Bracelet.
“I had three sets of goggles, a visor … I had to get rid of two of them pretty quickly.

“But I was on the back of the right horse (Amplify) to get a drag into it.
“Early on, I wanted to be on the inside.

“As the day has gone on, once we got that rain, I wanted to be off it as quick as I could.”

Despite having her fifth start this preparation, Pinito still appears to be improving with racing and appreciating the rise in distances.
