Santin back at Churchill Downs for G1 Arlington Million

Racenews

Santin gets the opportunity to try and win a second G1 over nine furlongs at Churchill Downs on Saturday, 13 August, with the Arlington Million having switched to the Kentucky track following the closure of Arlington Park.

The Brendan Walsh-trained colt produced a determined display when edging out Mira Mission by a neck in the G1 Turf Classic on the Kentucky Derby undercard in May.

Santin went down by the same margin in last season’s G1 Hollywood Derby and the Distorted Humor homebred finished sixth on his latest outing in the G1 Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park in June.

Michael Banahan, Director of Bloodstock, Godolphin USA, said: “Santin is coming into the Arlington Million in great shape. He had an easy time for a few weeks after the Manhattan, when he ran somewhat disappointingly.

“He has spent the summer up at Saratoga to take advantage of being able to work on the turf and the cooler weather. After shipping back to Churchill, he had a little blowout in 36 and change on Monday. Hopefully, this will set him up for a big race on Saturday.

“This has been his target since the Turf classic win on Derby Day, although the only caveat is the condition of the turf course at Churchill. If we don’t get a dry, firm course, we might have to reconsider our position.”
