Royal Ascot heritage handicap winner Portage tries for a third straight victory in the G3 Meld Stakes over nine furlongs at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Thursday, July 14.

The Michael Halford-trained four-year-old quickened clear for a convincing success in the Royal Hunt Cup over the straight mile at Royal Ascot on June 15, having been victorious in a 10-furlong Listed race on his seasonal return at the Curragh 11 days earlier.

James Doyle, on board at Ascot, takes the ride again on the Teofilo colt, who is drawn one and tackles nine rivals including G3 Diomed Stakes runner-up Decorated Knight, Listed scorer Tennessee Wildcat, impressive debut winner Adool and All-Weather star Captain Joy.

Michael Halford commented: "Portage has been in tremendous form since his win at Royal Ascot and this looks to be a lovely race for him.

"He has won over a mile and a mile and quarter so far this season, so nine furlongs should be fine.

"The ground is currently good to firm but he won on quick going as a two-year-old and I can't see it being a problem."
