Pleascach Second In Ribblesdale

Pleascach kept on to come home second in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes over a mile and a half at Royal Ascot, UK, on Thursday, June 18.

Pleascach kept on to come home second in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes over a mile and a half at Royal Ascot, UK, on Thursday, June 18.

The Jim Bolger-trained three-year-old filly raced keenly in fourth under Kevin Manning early on as the other Godolphin runner, Entertainment, representing John Gosden and ridden by James Doyle, set the pace for the 10 runners.

Pleascach settled better as the tempo started to quicken with three quarters of a mile left, went third turning in and moved up to second entering the straight as the pace increased again.

The daughter of Teofilo drifted left but took the lead from Entertainment a furlong and a half out before being headed by Curvy entering the final furlong.

Pleascach battled away but went down by a length to Curvy, who won in 2m 30.04s on good to firm ground. There was four lengths back to Pamona in third, with Entertainment fourth.

Jim Bolger said: "We think she stayed all right, but it didn't just happen today.

"We have options because she is very versatile at a mile, a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half, although I wouldn't envisage going beyond that."
