Osborne Bulls to replace Home Of The Brave in Everest

Mike Hedge

The Australian Turf Club has selected Osborne Bulls to run in The Everest at Royal Randwick on Saturday as a replacement for his stablemate Home Of The Brave who has a mildly elevated temperature and is unable to take his place.

The scratching of Home Of The Brave came after Godolphin informed Racing NSW Stewards of the horse’s condition.

Racing NSW and Godolphin vets examined Home Of The Brave after he galloped on Tuesday morning and had no choice but to rule the horse out of the A$13 million race.

Godolphin Managing Director in Australia, Vin Cox, said: “As the stewards have advised, Home Of The Brave has an elevated temperature.”

“It isn’t a serious issue, and we advised all relevant parties at the earliest opportunity."

“Osborne Bulls was the favourite for the Sydney Stakes, the race from which Everest replacements are selected, and it keeps our chances in this great race alive.

“James Cummings has been very pleased with the horse, he loves Royal Randwick and while we’re disappointed for Home Of The Brave, we’re delighted Osborne Bulls has been selected and the team are very confident he will run a big race.”

Under the conditions of the Everest, the ATC chose the replacement runner for Home Of The Brave from a pre-determined pool of horses entered for Saturday’s Sydney Stakes.

As one of those horses, and as the favourite for the Sydney Stakes, Osborne Bulls was selected.

“Osborne Bulls performed very well in the Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last start, and was a clear pick for this Saturday’s Sydney Stakes,’’ said ATC Director Phil Morley.

“ATC is pleased to be able to continue its partnership with Godolphin and its Australian trainer James Cummings in The Everest.’’

Osborne Bulls will be ridden by Tommy Berry, who had the mount on Home Of The Brave.
