Old-timers ready to produce as two-year-olds make debut at Randwick

A suitable trip and the improvement they have gained in two lead-up runs is expected to assist in a return to form from Allergic and It’s Somewhat when they run in Saturday’s G2 Hill Stakes at Randwick.

On a card in which Godolphin will also have multiple runners in the Listed Dulcify Stakes, the G1 Epsom Handicap and in the season’s opening two-year-old races, the two Hill Stakes entrants have the chance to return to form.

Trainer James Cummings expects both Allergic and It’s Somewhat are ready to find form.

“Allergic should start warming to the task now that he’s getting out to 2000m.”

“He’s enjoyed a nice, long spell and now he’s into a race that suits him.”

“It’s Somewhat has also been looking for 2000m and I thought his last furlong was encouraging last time in a Group 1 race.”

“He’s had a nice foundation and he brings some good form.”

Cummings conceded chances to both of his runners in the Dulcify Stakes, Cloak and Ligulate.

Cloak looks the best qualified of the pair following his second place to stablemate Aramayo at his latest appearance in the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle.

“He comes here with good form from his run behind Aramayo last start,” he said.

“He’s a strong colt who’s needed his races.

“Now he’s getting to peak fitness and we expect him to be competitive.”

“Ligulate was winding up at the end of his race against older horses last time.

“He always races well at Randwick and he could be the improver.”

In the two-year-old races Cummings will saddle Chismoso in the G3 Breeders’ Plate and Amercement and, possibly, Kibibi in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes.

“Chismoso is a very laid-back colt and we’ve fitted the blinkers to sharpen him up and improve his focus,” Cummings said.

“One of the things we’ve enjoyed seeing about the horse is that he’s a cool customer with a wonderful attitude that’s allowed him to get to this stage.”

While Amercement is a definite runner, Kibibi needs a scratching to leave a place for her in the Gimcrack.

“Amercement is definitely going to be a horse to follow in time,” Cummings said.

“She has the style about her and the natural pace to finish off nicely in a recent trial.

“Kibibi has a wonderful, long stride for a little filly and a lot of pace to go with it.”

“If she’s improved enough from her trial, and if she gets a run, we’re looking forward to seeing her putting it to good effect.”
