Nations Pride powers to victory in G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis

Racenews

Nations Pride delivered a second top-level success as he dominated from the front in the G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Germany on Sunday, 30 July. Last season’s G1 Saratoga Derby winner, making his first start since finishing a close third in the Dubai Turf, broke alertly and took up the running from Best Of Lips after the first furlong. Nations Pride soon established a two-length lead and kicked further clear under William Buick as his six rivals attempted to close entering the final quarter-mile. German Derby victor Fantastic Moon emerged as a potential challenger a furlong out but Nations Pride continued to travel strongly in front, extending his advantage before being eased close home to score by three lengths. The Teofilo colt, who is trained by Charlie Appleby, becomes the third Godolphin horse in the space of six years to win the Munich highlight following Benbatl (2018) and Barney Roy (2020). Fellow globe-trotter Kutub also won the 10-furlong race in 2001. Charlie Appleby said: “I’m delighted that Nations Pride has added a second G1 win to his name and it was a great ride by William [Buick], who got on the front end and controlled the race. “Nations Pride is a solid 10-furlong horse and we will probably continue to travel with him heading into the autumn, with the Bahrain International Trophy one of our targets.” William Buick added: “Nations Pride is a very good horse. He had a bit of a break after running in Dubai but this race was a very nice opportunity for him. He is a specialist at this trip and he had to be good to beat the German Derby winner, who was receiving a lot of weight.”
